I can't believe it's already Week 5, that means Camp is halfway over! Unbelievable!
I sent out invites just now to the Shutterfly account. If you would like a different e-mail address added, please let me know. I also sent out a brief e-mail this morning about photo permissions. It was hard to get the hard copy to everyone, and I really wanted to start uploading photos. If you didn't get the e-mail, here's the bottom line. IF YOU DO NOT WANT ME TO USE YOUR CHILD'S IMAGE ONLINE (either here or Shutterfly) E-MAIL ME ASAP AS LET ME KNOW. I am going to start posting pictures tomorrow. If you want an image removed or modified to not include your child, also let me know and I'll fix it.
Well, this week is hot-hot-hot. Last week was lovely, and I am pleased to say that our beach field trip was the best ever! No thunderstorms, blood, fighting, crying, e. coli, or bees! It's the little things in life, right? Anyways, we had a blast, and I am really looking forward to going back in a few weeks.
Congrats to all the kids who passed the swim test at the pool on Friday! I've gained quite a group who were able to do it. For those who tried and couldn't make it yet, I am so proud of them for trying. Each one of them has been so close, so keep practicing! They have to be able to swim one lap without touching the bottom, and tread water for 2 minutes.
Since it's so hot this week, our recess time is being cut drastically. This happens a few weeks during the summer - it's too hot to go outside, and it messes with everyone's schedules. We try to make up for it with more games and activities, but we can only think up so much, and the kids can only take so much before they sprawl themselves onto the floor in a heap of whining. Don't be shocked if you see a little more unstructured time the next few days, especially after 3:30/4:00. I've planned a few extra projects this week (suncatchers today, some fun games for Wednesday, and a wacky science or art project for Friday), and we're showing a special movie tomorrow - Honey I Shrunk The Kids. For special movie days, I try to show awesome movies the kids might not have seen before. We'll see what I come up with this year!
Kudos to all the parents who have signed up for SuccessMaker. I am really, really impressed by how many kids we have going each day - we had to break them into two groups, there were so many! I am beyond thrilled about this, and I am especially excited that none of them are "summer slumping" right now. It should go without saying that I am over the moon proud of the kids, some of whom are giving up a half hour EVERY DAY to go work on their math! They will be able to move mountains! If you still want to sign up - or sign up for more days!!!!! - let a staff member know and we can fix it.
This turned out longer than I was expecting (it always does!). Thanks for reading!
